What the World Cup can teach us about pregnancy
Hi {{first_name}},
Tonight, millions of us will watch England walk onto the pitch for the World Cup semi-final.
For ninety minutes, we'll watch skill, determination and teamwork unfold.
What we won't see are the months - and years - that came before it.
The training.
The nutrition.
The recovery.
The strength work.
The coaching.
The attention to every small detail that gives them the best possible chance of performing when it matters most.
Nobody expects a team to reach a World Cup semi-final by simply turning up and hoping for the best.
Preparation is accepted.
Expected, even.
Yet when it comes to pregnancy, we often take a very different approach.
We're told to start trying.
Take folic acid.
See what happens.
And if it doesn't happen...
Keep trying.
Hope the next pregnancy is different.
As a midwife, I've always found that fascinating.
Because pregnancy is one of the most extraordinary things the human body will ever do.
So why do we expect it to happen without preparing for it?
At Fertility-Fit, I believe every pregnancy begins long before a positive pregnancy test.
It begins with the health of the egg.
The health of the sperm.
The environment they meet in.
The quality of ovulation.
The nutrients available to support those earliest stages of development.
The way your body is functioning before conception ever takes place.
Preparing your body for pregnancy isn't about striving for perfection.
It's about understanding your body well enough to give every pregnancy the healthiest possible start.
That's why I spend so much of my time helping women understand why before we talk about what.
Why isn't pregnancy happening?
Why aren't pregnancies holding?
Why has no one looked at this before?
Because once we understand the "why", every decision that follows has purpose.
Over the next week, I'm going to be sharing more about what preparing your body for pregnancy really looks like, and why it's very different from simply waiting and hoping.
Because every pregnancy deserves the healthiest possible start.
