You don't get to just feel excited anymore

You don't get to just feel excited anymore.

A positive pregnancy test used to mean something quite simple.

You're pregnant.

But after you’ve experienced miscarriage more than once, it can mean twenty things at once.

You look at the second line and your heart skips a beat and your mind starts working overtime.

When you could have bloods done.

Whether that cramp feels familiar.

Whether your symptoms are strong enough.

When you might be able to get a scan.

How many weeks you were last time.

You might feel happy.

You might desperately want to feel happy.

And somewhere alongside it, there's the part of you that already knows how quickly this can change.

So you wait.

For the next blood test.

The next week.

The next scan.

The milestone you didn't make it past before.

And sometimes even getting past that milestone doesn't bring the relief you thought it would, because your brain simply finds the next point it needs to reach.

This is something I wish more people understood about pregnancy after recurrent loss.

You can want another pregnancy more than almost anything and still find being pregnant incredibly difficult.

Because you've already learned something you never wanted to learn.

A positive test doesn't feel like a promise anymore.

And when you've experienced more than one loss, it makes sense that you want to know whether there's anything in your own fertility picture that could help you understand what has happened and what might be worth exploring before or during another pregnancy.

That's what we'll be talking about in our next Fertility-Fit webinar on 29 September, focused specifically on recurrent miscarriage and whether your every day life is really helping you to get pregnant..

We'll look at some of the factors that may be considered when investigating recurrent pregnancy loss, and how to start making sense of the information around you without feeling like you have to investigate every possible explanation yourself.

If you're trying again, thinking about trying again, or wondering what you want to understand before you do, we'd love you to join us on our free webinar on 29 September.

You start going back over everything
You start going back over everything. The coffee you drank that morning. The workout you did before you knew. The week at work when you barely stopped. The glass of wine. The flight. The hot bath. The supplement you forgot to take. Something somebody mentioned in a fertility group at 11pm that you've never even heard of before. You know you can drive yourself mad doing this. You know there may ...
The question I wish more women asked before IVF
One of the questions I hear most often is, "What should I be taking before IVF?" It's a good question. But it isn't the first question I'd ask. I'd start here instead. "What does my body actually need?" Those are very different conversations. Because no two women arrive at IVF having walked the same path. One may need to rebuild iron stores. Another may need support with insulin regulation. Som...
The hardest part isn't waiting. It's deciding what to do next.
After every setback comes another decision. Do we try again straight away? Do we wait? Do we investigate? Do we save our money? Do we spend it privately? Do we move to IVF? Do we keep hoping? Most people think fertility is about patience. I don't think it is. I think it's about decision fatigue. When you've experienced miscarriage or months of trying, every choice suddenly feels enormous. Becau...
